FOURTH YEAR MECHATRONICS ENGINEERING STUDENT
PROFILE

Hi, I'm Kendra! I'm from Toronto, Canada, and I'm currently a fourth year Mechatronics Engineering student at the University of Waterloo. Ever since I was little I have always loved understanding how things worked: whether it be how media can subconsciously influences our daily lives or how all the components of a car make it run. During high school, I started to focus exploring how the world worked through STEM, by taking up computer science courses and joining the robotics club. Throughout this time I also enjoyed learning about media literacy and communications technology, which started my hobby of design, film, and photography. I continue to explore both my passion for engineering and media in university, and in the future hope work on developing different audio/video/media technologies.

Experience
Jan 2022 - Apr 2022
ADVANCED RESEARCH SYSTEMS ENGINEER
Christie Digital Systems
I created demos showcasing interactivity between the real and virtual world. Using object detection software, real objects manipulate a virtual scene created in Unreal Engine. For example, making the 3D environment in Unreal change based on what object is detected in front of a camera. Another demo shows a virtual object tracking the motion of a real object.
Technologies used or researched: AirSim, Unreal Engine, Python, ROS, PX4, Azure, VSLAM algorithms
Sept 2020 - Dec 2020
HARDWARE DESIGNER
Imagine Communications
I added a new feature on the Selenio™ Network Processor (SNP), which detects the video standard of ST-2110 video stream packets read by the FPGA. I also worked on the Platinum™ IP3 by implementing a new I2C design flow so that a Kinetis microcontroller sends read/write information to the input and output backmodule via a FPGA.
Skills learned: InstallShield, WISE, Windows batch, WPF, XAML, C#, .NET, and enyo
Other skills used: CSS, JS, Git
May 2019 - Aug 2019
JUNIOR DEVELOPER
Newtopia
I worked on both the front and back end of the company's mobile app and registration website. In addition to bug fixes, I ensured the website and app met WCAG AA standards. I also created some Salesforce APIs along with Visualforce and Lightning components.
Technologies used : Unreal Engine, Node.js, C
May 2021 - Aug 2021
SENIOR R&D INTERN
Wind River
I created a prototype allowing a Nvidia Jetson TX2 development board to retrieve real-time video and sensor data from a simulation environment. Data is sent between the simulation and IoT board via Wi-Fi or Ethernet. Using the data, the TX2 would run a VSLAM algorithm to map the environment. I also researched how Microsoft Azure services could be used in the design to enable cloud capabilities.
Tools learned: VHDL, Xilinx Vivado, Aldec Active HDL, Quartus II, IAR Embedded Workbench, J-Link Pro debugger, and CVS
Technologies learned: AXI4 stream, ST-2110-20, RFC 3550 RTP protocol, and I2C
Other skills used: C, MatLab, and Git
Jan 2020 - Apr 2020
SOFTWARE ENGINEER
Imagine Communication
I worked on application installers, build scripts, UI components, and back end fixes the Magellan™ SDN Orchestrator (SDNO). I also worked on build scripts for the Live Manager product.
Skills learned: HTML, CSS, JS, Apex, SOQL, Git, React JS, React Native, Salesforce Visualforce, Salesforce Lightning, WCAG
